Behind the comedy hides the bitter revelation of the tragedy of the human condition: fragile and subject to uncontrollable events. This is what drives us to stage today Molière's text which, if in the seventeenth century it found its raison d'etre in the heated social criticism of ignorance and science understood as religion, today, in this delicate historical moment, it becomes even more relevant.

The show guides us in the search for the rediscovered human, in search of that deep and lost humanity that should be our lighthouse, beyond ideological, political and scientific convictions.

The energy and freshness of the new Catalyst production are the result of an intense work of the cast, mostly under 35, composed of the actors Riccardo Rombi, Giorgia Calandrini, Dafne Tinti, Giovanni Negri, Marco Mangiantini and the talented musician Gabriele Savarese, in a continuous dialogue with the actors and events.

THE ILL IMAGINARY - The new Catalyst production inaugurates the trilogy “THE FOUNDED HUMAN”, dedicated to Molière's work.
The character of Argan, played by Riccardo Rombi, is a man made sour and ugly by life who seeks in medicine the answer to an unbridgeable existential void. A man locked up in his small and selfish world, made up of purges and absurd therapeutic prescriptions, suffocated by bottles and flasks, so darkened by his convictions and fears that he cannot even distinguish sincere affections from impostors. In short, a man of the seventeenth century, but also an example of a man of today, lost in the tide of information and false truths that come from everywhere, a man who no longer has a point of reference and for this decides to entrust his life to charlatans and profiteers. Surrounded by many, but deeply alone, the protagonist has lost the ability to understand the only true reality: that of humanity, understood as a feeling of sharing, compassion and openness to the other.
Argan is the pivot of a clock mechanism in which all the other characters move like precise gears. From the center of the stage, in his armchair, the self-styled patient is interacting with a variegated theater of human types: the young daughter, in love and determined, his wife Belina, opportunistic and falsely apprehensive, the slimy notary Bonafede, the two charlatan doctors , the young suitors of Angelica, her brother Beraldo, the voice of common sense and the trusted Toinette. In an incessant succession of back and forth, in which the reasons and the unreasonableness of the characters give life to a debate (where everyone alternately assumes the role of defendants, judges and inquisitors) at times surreal, at times grotesque, in which important reflections emerge. on family relationships, on life, on the priorities of the human being, and on the importance of reasoning and common sense. Behind the comedy hides the bitter revelation of the tragedy of the human condition: fragile and subject to uncontrollable events.
This is what drives us to stage today the text of Moliere, which in the seventeenth century found its raison d'etre in the heated social criticism of ignorance and science understood as religion and which in this historical moment could not be more current. The theater, rather than giving us some answers, obliges us to ask ourselves a few more questions, teaching us to reason with common sense and practicality, putting aside irrational fears and equally unreasonable solutions dictated by selfishness.
The show guides us in the search for the rediscovered human, in search of that deep and lost humanity that should be our lighthouse, beyond ideological, political and scientific convictions.
